Hello and welcome! I am Dr. Elizabeth Davidson and am so excited to be serving the families of Middlebury and all the lovely surrounding towns. I would like to share with you a little about who I am and how I chose my amazing career as a chiropractor.
I grew up in the woods of Montgomery, Vermont. My family lived at the end of a dirt road and raised much of our own food. I was so lucky to start out my life eating close to the source rather than processed and chemically altered foods. Seemingly in spite of this great start, I was riddled with health problems as a child: almost daily headaches, bronchitis twice a year, constant joint pain, and more. After course after course of antibiotics, not only was I not better, I just kept feeling worse. I knew my medical doctor was not helping me, so from a very young age I started seeking better ways to heal and be well.
I explored all kinds of different diets, herbal medicines, acupuncture, chiropractic, yoga, but nothing seemed to help very much. After a car accident when I was seventeen I started going to another chiropractor for neck and back injuries, but he just wanted to crack my neck all the time (which hurt!) and never told me why, so I decided that chiropractic was not for me.
A few years later while completing my undergraduate studies my roommate invited me to go to a class with her. Unbeknownst to me, the class was at her chiropractor's office. It didn't have much to do with chiropractic, but afterward the chiropractor adjusted all the attendees (I was the only non-client at the time). She did some very light touches on my neck and back. It didn't feel like much but later I noticed that all the tension in my neck was gone and my shoulders were at right angles to my neck rather than their usual straight line from shoulder to chin. I felt great and committed to a regular care program.
Over the next few years I studied environmental science, biology, literature, and education earning Bachelor of Arts degrees in liberal arts and elementary education. After a winter as a ski bum-very fun, everyone should try it-and a summer building log cabins, I decided I should use my degree and got a job teaching school. I loved the kids, but not the school system.
One morning I woke up and the only thought in my head was that I should be a chiropractor. I thought about it all day and realized it was a perfect career for me. I could bring a beneficial service to children and their familes, use all the healing knowledge and desire I had gained over the years, use my teaching experience, be my own boss, make a good living, have time to raise a family, and make the world better place. That afternoon I called my chiropractor to ask where I should go to school. A month later I was teaching during the day and taking organic chemistry classes in the evening. After a summer of physics I drove myself and belongings to South Carolina to start school at a place I had never seen, but had been told it was the best place to get a true chiropractic education: Sherman College of Chiropractic.
n my first day of philosophy class I learned about innate intelligence--that force within us that keeps us alive and organizes all of our functions-- and how chiropractic optimizes life expression by allowing innate intelligence to work without interference. Finally I knew what I was to do with my life! In school every day I learned all about anatomy, neurology, and how to touch and adjust people. In weekend seminars and evening practice sessions I learned the extremely gentle techniques that had inspired me to become a chiropractor. In December of 2006 I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my Doctor of Chiropractic degree.
Since then I have been adding wellness to the people of Montgomery, but now I am ready for more opportunity for my daughter and me (and a little less winter!), so have moved to this lovely town of Middlebury and am enjoying discovering this community.
I am so thankful that the symptoms I have experienced in my life pushed me to search for a solution. Now I get to help everyone heal. No matter what symptoms a person has chiropractic care can always bring more life and I am honored to be a part of that process.
In August of 2008 I gave birth to my wonderful daughter Elena. She had her first adjustment just hours after her birth. It continues to be such an amazing experience to watch a life blossom with no interference. She is adjusted weekly, has no vaccinations, eats organic foods. She was never fussy, colicky, never spit up and her worst symptom has been a runny nose. She makes me wonder how much easier my life might have been if I had been adjusted from birth. Now I am blessed to watch her potential unfold with clear brain-body connection.
Elena and I love to play outside, cross-country ski, go for walks, and cook and eat yummy local food. We get chiropractic adjustments every week and Elena makes sure all her babies are well adjusted too.
I will be presenting free weekly Family Wellness Seminars at the office and would love to see you there. I am also available to speak to any groups large or small who have an interest in achieving a higher quality of life. Please contact the office for questions or information. Elena and I look forward to being active members of this community and watching your family grow in wellness with us.
